Students, faculty participate in KSCA convention

A number of Kansas Wesleyan University students and faculty participated in the Kansas Speech Communication Association (KSCA) convention September 5-6 in Salina.
The KSCA is made up of K-12 educators and coaches, community college and university faculty, theatre arts practitioners, and college students in the communication field.
Gary Harmon, Director of Forensics and Debate at Kansas Wesleyan was elected President of KSCA for 2009-2010. Barbara Marshall, Chair of the Department of Communication Studies and Theatre Arts at Kansas Wesleyan, was elected Second Vice President.

Kansas Wesleyan students who presented communication analysis papers include Steve Johnston, Manhattan, Jeriah Forbes, Hutchinson, Molly Suter, Hutchinson, and Noah Shook, Lyons. The session was chaired by Harmon.

Danielle Wieden, Hanover, and Meriah Forbes, Hutchinson, performed Prose Interpretation and Faith Literature during the Showcase: College & High School Performances in Interp & Acting. Additionally, recent Kansas Wesleyan alumni and a current student discussed their experiences as student teachers during one of the convention sessions. Participants in that session included Daniele Leite ('08), Salina, Megan Hagaman ('07), a debate teacher at Buhler High School, and Amanda Little, Salina. Chairs for this session included Marshall.
Several Kansas Wesleyan faculty also participated in the convention.

Richard Esvang, Director of Theatre presented "Critiquing Student Performances in Interp & Acting." Marshall was one of the presenters in "Examples of What Works in Basic College Speech Classes." Paul Green, Production Manager, and Dr. Jack Morris, Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Theatre Arts, presented "Multimedia: An Essential Element of Communications."
