Kansas Wesleyan's Women's Cross Country team finished first for the first time this season, while the men posted a third place finish at the Butler CC Ollie Isom Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Wesleyan's women finished first among the nine teams at the meet, including NCAA Division II power Emporia State University. The Coyotes scored 53 points, 11 ahead of the Hornets. All five Coyote runners finished in the top 20, paced by Crystal Stegman who was sixth in the 4K race with a 15:01. Cherise Price was seventh in 15:13, Shanda Anderson was 12th in 15:29, Kara Walker was 13th in 15:32, and Stacey Lastra was 17th with a 15:38. There were 80 runners in the women's race.
The Coyote men were third overall behind meet winner Garden City CC, who is ranked No.3 in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll, and regional NCAA Division II power Emporia State. The Coyotes scored 85 points, behind ESU's 63 and Garden City's 32.
Ernie Cruz again paced the Coyotes with a 15:48 over the 5K course. Nathan Mesta was 15th with a 15:56, Michael Rascon was 17th with a 16:04, Jeremy Davies was 21st in 16:10, and Paul Minneman was 24th with a 16:16. Other KWU finishers included Peter Madrigal finishing 28th with a 16:21, Kyle Sieve in 47th with a 16:53, Jordan Evans in 72nd with a 17:49, and Joel Wallace was 83rd in 18:24. There was 96 runners in the men's race.
