Celebrating Relaxation, Family and Merry Making

Another winter has dawned upon us, another "snow day" to hope for and another holiday to look forward to, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or whatever.
It's that cold time of the year where we have the same conversations we did last year. Another mug of hot cocoa, more cookies; another evergreen to cut down and make royal the living room.
The usual festive songs shall be sung in the spirit of tradition as the milk and cookies are laid out for the "HOs" coming down the chimney. But the fat man and I celebrate differently.
Home for me is where family is, and I am going back home to Arizona. Yes, we have long since conformed to society so the house will be decorated.
But that's as far as modern tradition goes. On the other hand, Christmas Day is a time for our family to get together and enjoy our tightly woven unit. A time where we eat plenty, drink plenty, and indulge in merry making.
But most importantly for us, it's a time when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. We give thanks for blessings and pray for the new year.
On a personal note, the holidays represent the time when I catch up to some much needed sleep, due to senseless procrastination. It's a time when I gaze in retrospect at my life and make some new year resolutions that I hope not to break.
But more importantly, I get to watch my first NBA game with my baby niece (aww how cute). Christmas Day will see the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Cavaliers, and being a Lakers' fan, I feel the need to put in print that Kobe is better than Lebron. Enough said!
I don't know about you, but I have been counting down the days of my departure from Salina. I'm psyched, I'm excited, and I'm stoked to eat mom's food!
Barely two more weeks to go and we all are on the same page about getting our finals out of the way.
So however which way you choose to celebrate your holidays, I will toast you in advance. Safe travels to all and have a Merry Christmas!
