Rob Zombie the Master or horror rock returns with his fourth solo studio album titled "Hellbilly Deluxe 2" the first since Educated Horses from 2006.
He took sometime off to turn out some amazing horror movies that he wrote and directed. So late last year while working on Halloween 2 he decided it was time to return to his first love music and thus we now have "Hellbilly Deluxe 2." It is supposed to be a sequel to his first triple-platinum solo album "Hellbilly Deluxe."
"Hellbilly Deluxe 2" is Rob's first album with a new record label Roadrunner Records. When I first heard the first single, "What?", I wasn't blown away but then I listened to it again and each time I hear I love it more and more. The other big tracks on the ablum are "Jesus Frankenstein," "Sick Bubblegum," "Mars Needs Women" "Werewolf Women of the SS" and "The Man Who Laughs."
"Hellbilly Deluxe 2" brings us back to the sound we know and love from Rob. He lost a lot of that with Educated Horses which isn't a bad thing cause it was an amazing album also. I loved that he experimented with that album.
However, despite being championed as a "sequel" to 1998's Hellbilly Deluxe the new album is considerably more rooted in metal riffs and hooks with a bit of psycho-billy sprinkled in and some southern slide and bluesy charm than Zombie's first two solo efforts. He is evolving and we love that but if you're a fan of his earlier albums you won't be disappointed. There still is the sci-fi/horror-inspired samples on this recording that we all love that he includes.
Rob also worked really closely with his most sustained touring band, you'll find and you can hear the influences of John 5, Piggy D., and Tommy Clufetos. Don't forget that Hellbilly Deluxe 2 will be the last CD Rob Zombie releases. He will be moving into releasing the next album completely in digital format. So if you're a fan of his art, you really need to run out and pick up this album. I recommend this album to anyone who is a Rob Zombie fan or a fan or 60's or 70's horror movies.
