So, Sarah Palin comes to a small town in the middle of Kansas; what might you ask were her motives?
Sure, local Business interests are important, but this is a woman who has hit the political scene almost as startlingly as Barack Obama did the last year!
It was obvious that she was going to take this opportunity to soothe the hearts of her Republican base and make this one political. Before the activities got under way, I decided to wet my curiosity and discover what brought 13% of Salina's population to see this woman talk.
After all, apart from hearing 'Sarah's' oratory skills, my main purpose was to chat to ordinary 'Salinaians' to see what was important to them.
While stumbling about the local CEO's and their wives, I caught the eye of two middle-aged men, who didn't happen to be businessmen, just two average Joe's having a yarn. I was to discover that while they had an abundance of harsh words for the current Commander-in-Chief, Ms. Palin was seen as the 'lovely personal lady' who "should be the next President in four years time."
Interesting. They didn't seem to have much to say about any particular issues which are important to today's American society. Instead, referring me to YouTube to see what disgusting things Nancy Pelosi (Leader of the House of Representatives and active Democrat) has been up to recently.
I must find time to do that. Onwards and upwards.
It really was nerve tingling. People here really like her, but why?
Since this was a speech about local small business, presented by the Chamber of Commerce, you would think that she would at least give the topic 10 minutes of her time. Turns out, a jibe at the President rolled off the tongue in a matter of minutes.
An exciting town, striving for more companies to set up base camp here and to maintain its new image of ' the best place to raise a family in Kansas', you would think that such a figure of Sarah Palin would use all her influence and skill to promote the best of what Salina can offer.
