On Sunday, at 4:00 p.m., the Salina Symphony will present "Romantic Interlude" at the Stiefel Theatre.
This concert will include music from the Romantic period, including pieces by Wagner, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. Featured performer, Behzod Abduraimov, will accompany the symphony in "Piano Concerto No. 1," one of Tchaikovsky's most popular works.
Abduraimov, winner of the gold medal for the 2009 King Award for Young Artists, has received great critical acclaim and is only 18 years old.
He has been invited to perform with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and to tour with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Uzbekistan, Abduraimov began playing the piano at age five, giving his first solo performance with a symphony orchestra at the age of eight.
This concert is the fourth performance by the Salina Symphony this season, with their last concert, "Bach & the Baroque," being performed on May 2.
The large group of seventy consists of first and second violins, violas, cellos, basses, flutes, piccolos, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, trumpets, French horns, trombones, tubas, percussion, and the piano.
For this concert, they will be performing Wagner's "Rienzi Overture," Brahms' "Variations on a Theme by Haydn," and Tchaikovsky's "Piano Concerto No. 1."
Tickets are $19 for adults and $12 for students and may be purchased at the Stiefel Theatre Box Office, 151 S. Santa Fe, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or you can call the Stiefel Theatre at 785-827-1998. The box office will be open at noon on concert day.
Tickets are also available online at www.ticketmaster.com.
