As the cost of a college education continues to rise across the country, many talented engineering students search for scholarship assistance. To help such students with their college costs, Kelly Engineering Resources, a specialty service of Kelly Services, Inc, is offering its eighth annual Future Engineers Scholarship.
All sophomore- and junior-level college engineering students who meet the program criteria are invited to compete for the scholarship by submitting an essay on a designated, contemporary engineering topic. To date, Kelly Engineering Resources has provided more than $35,000 in scholarship funds to college students.
Since 2004, the scholarship award has been presented to one engineering student each year, in recognition of his or her outstanding academic performance.
Winners typically also display a depth of knowledge about a specific issue or challenge that is addressed in an essay, which all scholarship candidates must complete in order to be considered. In January 2011, the student with the winning essay will be presented a $5,000 scholarship check to be used toward eligible expense for tuition, fees, books, and room and board during the 2011 calendar year.
Submission materials and guidelines, as well as this year's essay question, are available at the following link. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2010. The Future Engineers Scholarship program was developed to encourage student interest in a future career in engineering, to foster excellence in the engineering field, and to help alleviate a critical current and future shortage of highly qualified engineers.
The seven judges for the 2011 Future Engineers Scholarship program are: Leslie Smith, director of programs, The Engineering Society of Detroit; Elizabeth Walzel, director of engineering, The Dow Chemical Company; Tim Pasternak, director, renal solution product support, Baxter Healthcare; Alex Jarostchuk, associate director of production, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals; Jocelyn E. Scott, vice president, engineering and facilities services, DuPont; David Wagman, editor, Power Engineering Magazine; and Debra Rubin, editor at large, Engineering News Record.
Kelly Engineering Resources (KER) is a specialty service of Kelly Services Inc, a leader in providing workforce solutions. Since employing its first engineer in 1965, KER has grown to be recognized as a leading provider of engineering resources to customers in such industries as automotive, chemical, defense, electronics, energy, medical device and pharmaceutical.
